Trinidad Moruga Scorpion

The Trinidad Morugas Scorpion (SHU2,009,231) has been recently distinguished in February 2012 as the newest, hottest chilli pepper in the world.

Apart from the heat, it has a tender rather fruity flavour, which gives it an unusual sweet-hot combination.

However, apparently people consuming it may also experience a fiery sensation that spreads across tongue and down the throat and may also cause sweating, salivating, a red nose and produce tears.

It is not surprising then that Paul Bosland, a renowned chilli pepper expert and director of the Chili Institute, said that, ‘You take a bit and it doesn’t seem to bad, and then it builds and it builds and it gets quite nasty”

On the other hand, another gentleman, Mr. Barrus, states “Despite the incredibly intense burning, which persists for 20 minutes, the 40 minute period of bliss that follows is worth the pain”.  

Well, I guess now we sure  know why the Trinidad Scorpion deserves the hottest in the world title.
